Department of Research and Development

 

 
The Research and Development ( R&D) Department of Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth (VVMVP) was set up in the year 1981. This department conducts medical research related primarily to spiritual practices (Sudarshan Kriya and pranayama, meditation and yoga, as also on Sri Sri Ayurvedic products. The spiritual practices are taught through Art of Living programs such as Part 1 , Part 2, Advanced course, Divya Samaj ka Nirman (DSN), Sahaj Samadhi, Sri Sri Yoga programs and many others.


The research conducted by the R&D department through its association with other organzations has demonstrated so far that The Art of Living programs have influence on brain, immune system and antioxidant defense in a positive way. The relaxation response introduced by these processes has been demonstrated through a number of studies. Subjects suffering from depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD), and subjects who suffered  Tsunami and other disasters benefited tremendously from these practices.


The positive effects of Sudarshan Kriya & pranayama has been demonstrated at the level of gene expression also. It is suggested that subjects practicing Sudarshan Kriya & Pranayama on a regular basis have lower chances of developing heart ailments and cancer.

Already more than 30 research papers related to Art of Living programs have been published in national and international journals.

Currently the department is studying the effect of Sudarshan Kriya & Pranayama on electroencephalogram (EEG). Studies are also on to see the effect of Pramehantak and Shakti Drops on various disease processes. Collaborative study is planned to see the long term effect of Sudarshan Kriya & pranayama on gene expression and neurotransmitters.
