Food Grain (Anna) is Identical to the Supreme Transcendental Entity (Brahma-Vastu).

Food provides life, building material for the body, strength, enthusiasm, a sense of satiety, colour, lustre, memory, intellect, inspiration and helps in conception and propagation of the species. Food provides energy required to carry out the life activities which can lead one to heaven or help one to attain the Final Liberation (Moksha), i.e. Eternal Bliss. Health and happiness depend on food. A beneficial diet gives happiness, health and prolongs one’s lifespan. Thus Anna Daan (Donation of Food) is consider to be one of the supreme donation form and has multifold benefits.

May the Provider of Food (Annadata) be Happy (Sukhi Bhava).

Annadata sukhi bhava means 'those who are providing me with food, let them be happy'. We all should chant this every day, both before and after our meals. Bless them before and after you have had your food. - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

In Art of Living we have tradition of praying for wellbeing and prosperity of everyone on the planet. Before taking our meal, we pray and bless people for their prosperity who have helped in providing food to us (all yogis and devotees). If you really look at it, the true Annadaata (the Giver of Food) is none other than Divine himself. And Divine is always happy and content. Does Divine ever become unhappy? No! Yet, at the level of this gross material world that we are in, we pray to Divine who is the ultimate nurturer, for the happiness and well-being of people who help to provide us with food.

Food is the foundation of life. Therefore on some occasions, if not every day, one should donate food – be it one’s birthday or remembering one’s ancestors. This was a tradition in our country that we distribute and donate food especially during festivals and auspicious days.
